Anna Seva

Anna Seva is a sacred act of service in Hindu puja that involves offering food to devotees, saints, the needy, or the community as a form of devotion to God. Rooted in the belief that “Annadaan is Mahadaan” (the greatest donation is food), Anna Seva represents compassion, selflessness, and divine service.

In puja, food is first offered to the deity as Bhog and then distributed as Prasad through Anna Seva. It is considered equivalent to serving God Himself, as scriptures teach that God resides in every living being. Anna Seva is commonly performed during temple festivals, Mahashivratri, Navratri, Shraddh rituals, and special pujas.
