Milk

Milk holds a very sacred place in Shiva Puja and is one of the most important offerings used in Shivling Abhishek. Pouring milk over the Shivling symbolizes purity, devotion, and spiritual cleansing.

According to Hindu belief, Lord Shiva consumed the deadly poison (Halahala) during Samudra Manthan to protect the universe. Offering cool, pure milk is believed to soothe Lord Shiva and calm the intense heat of the poison held in his throat. For this reason, milk abhishek is especially significant on Mondays, Mahashivratri, Shravan month, and Pradosh Vrat.
